Ways to Volunteer
Volunteers are the lifeblood of VKL. Their dedication to providing our neighbors with friendly smiles, kind words and helping hands is the very reason the Village movement is rapidly growing throughout towns and cities all over America.
Here are some of the ways in which you can volunteer:
Provide Services
-
Social Callers: Visit our members to spend time chatting or playing a game, to go for walks, to make daily phone calls, or to check in during times of crisis.
-
Drivers: Give rides to and/or from a variety of locations such as grocery stores, pharmacies, doctors’ offices, restaurants, theaters, and social events.
-
Tech Support: Help with computer, phone, television and other devices.
-
Shopping Helpers: Run errands for members such as going grocery shopping or picking up prescriptions.
-
Indoor/Household: Perform light household tasks such as changing light bulbs or taking out the trash.
-
Outdoor: Provide light maintenance around the member’s property such as gardening or pet care.
Participate on a Committee
-
Administrative Sub-Committee: Serve as a part of the management of VKL including coordinating services between volunteers and members, working with databases, disseminating information, and vetting and training volunteers.
-
Events Sub-Committee: Plan cultural programs, social events, and special interest groups or help out on the day of an event.
-
Communications Sub-Committee: Develop articles for Views from the Village, distribute newsletters, research information for monthly Happenings that keep members informed about events, and design flyers advertising special events.
Be An On-Call Volunteer
For those who are not interested in making a long-term commitment, there are opportunities to work on specific tasks (e.g., distributing brochures, helping out at events, etc.)
